The base is stearic acid and the salt of lauric acid. The properties of metal soap stabilizers vary with the types of metals and acid radicals. The general rules are as follows: heat resistance: cadmium and zinc soap have good heat resistance in the initial stage; Barium, calcium, magnesium and strontium soaps have good long-term heat resistance, and lead soaps are in the middle. Weather resistance: cadmium, zinc, lead, barium and tin soaps are better. Processability: lead and cadmium soaps have good lubricity, but acid radical also has a great influence on lubricity. For the same metal, aliphatic is better than aromatic. The longer the molecular chain in aliphatic acid radical, the better the lubricity. Barium, calcium, magnesium and strontium soap have poor lubricity but good gelation. Pressure precipitation: barium, calcium, magnesium and strontium soaps are prone to pressure precipitation, while zinc, cadmium and lead soaps are not prone to pressure precipitation. The longer the molecular chain of fatty acid soaps, the heavier the pressure precipitation, and the more harmful the frost spraying. Lead and cadmium soaps are highly toxic and have sulfide pollution. Calcium and zinc soaps are often used in non-toxic formulas; Barium and zinc soaps are often used in the formula of sulfur pollution resistance. Magnesium stearate can be regarded as non-toxic. The United States, Germany and Japan allow it to be used in products in contact with food, but it is not widely used as a heat stabilizer for PVC. This variety is contained in the Pharmacopoeia of China and some other countries. The Pharmacopoeia stipulates the content of magnesium, water, heavy metals, iron, sulfate and chloride.
