The appearance of VAT violet 9 is a dark purple powder.
Insoluble in water; Slightly soluble in tetrahydronaphthalene and xylene.
It is green in concentrated sulfuric acid and has a dark purple precipitate after dilution.
The chromophore formed by the dye in the alkaline powder solution is blue and the acid powder solution is blue and dark red.
