White scaly solid or powder, or white needle-like crystals, with a slight odor, specific gravity 1.527 (4°C), melting point 130.8°C, boiling point 284.5°C, easy to sublime, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and hydrolyzed to Phthalic acid.
