Sodium carbonate is an inorganic compound, also known as soda ash, but it is classified as salt, not alkali. It is also known as soda or soda ash in international trade. Sodium carbonate is a white powder, tasteless and odorless, easily soluble in water, the aqueous solution is strongly alkaline, it will absorb moisture and agglomerate in humid air, and part of it will become sodium bicarbonate. The preparation methods of sodium carbonate include combined soda making method, ammonia soda method, Lublin method, etc., and can also be processed and refined by trona. It is an important inorganic chemical raw material, mainly used in the production of flat glass, glass products and ceramic glaze. It is also widely used in domestic washing, acid neutralization and food processing.

Usage
1)Manufacture of glass, where it reduces the melting temperature of the sand used in glass formation and helps in the 'workability' or shaping of glass articles such as tableware and float glass.
2)Making soaps and detergents, where it is employed as a builder, or filler, to give a smoother surface.
3) Production of chemicals such as sodium silicate, percarbonate, and soda and dichromate.
4) Pulp and paper manufacture, water treatment, effluent treatment, metallurgy, drugs, flue gas desulfurization, Textile Printing and dyeing industry, Leather etc.
5) Soda Ash is a food additive used as an acidity regulator, anti-caking agent, raising agent and stabilizer.
6) It is also used in the production of snus (Swedish-style snuff) and sherbet powder.
7) In China, it is used to replace lye-water in the crust of traditional Cantonese moon cakes, and in many other Chinese steamed buns and noodles
