iIprazole is a powerful proton pump inhibitor, which acts by interfering with the proton pump secreting gastric acid on gastric parietal cells. After oral administration, iprazole selectively enters the gastric parietal cells and is converted into the active metabolite of hyposulfonamide, which reacts with the sulfhydryl group on h+/k+-atpase to form a covalent binding of disulfide bond, irreversibly inhibits h+/k+-atpase and produces the effect of inhibiting gastric acid secretion.
